County council awards EMS contract to AMR

Chesterfield County Council awarded the county emergency medical service contract to American Medical Response, based in West Columbia, during a special meeting yesterday.

The new three-year contract with AMR, which is effective July 1, is $1.25 million per year with an increase each year based on the Medical Consumer Price Index but no more than three percent.

The 8-1 public decision followed an extensive executive session. Council member Ben Teal cast the dissenting vote.

The current county contract with Medshore is $1.47 million yearly or $4.41 million for three years and expires June 30 pursuant to the terms of that existing contract.

The other bidder for the contract was MedShore, which came in at $1.5 million for the first year.

More information will be posted to Breaking News as details become available.
