Preliminary Election Results

The following information shows preliminary election results for Chesterfield County in yesterday’s mid-term General Election. Absentee ballots are included in the results, which will be certified Friday, Nov. 9.

All incumbents, whether Republican, Democrat or non-partisan (school board) won their respective seats.

Only races with opponents are listed, and tallies are listed by percentages.

Governor/Lt.Gov.: Henry McMaster 56.5/Jim Smith 43.4

Secretary of State: Mark Hammond 57.9/Mel Whittenburg 42.1

State Treasurer: Curtis Loftis 55.8/ Rosa Glenn 42/ Sara Work 1.1

34.2

The Amendment 1 proposal to make the state superintendent of education a gubernatorial appointed position failed with 35.1 percent voting Yes and 64.5 voting No, meaning the state superintendent of education remains an elective position.

Note: Since the Democratic nominee for state superintendent of education, Israel Romero, officially withdrew from that race, per state law, GOP Molly Spearman received 99.9 percent of that vote.

The county turnout was 47.5 percent.
